I don't have much time to blog these days, because we spend about 1 hour reading the Bible each night. I'm not saying that to brag, more to whine really. 15 pages of the Bible a day is a lot!
Random thought of the day: We should worship God because he's God. That's it. Period. If we listen to worship songs, so much of them are focused on what God has done for us and how we feel about that. (Songs about how he's merciful, how he's loving, how he's patient, how we love him, how we are free because of him, etc.) God has done a lot for us, and we should worship him for it.
But our worship can't only be motivated by and focused on this. Because what about the days that I don't feel like God is doing anything for me? And the days I don't feel so good about him at all?
In reading Genesis, it struck me how the people who did choose to worship God did so, seemingly, purely because he is God. That is enough. Not because he's nice or because he's loving or because he's forgiving. Because he's God.
Is that enough? If God never sent Jesus to die for us, should we still worship him? Yes, because he's God. Period. The pagans know this.
So, while being deeply and profoundly grateful for God's character and God's goodness to me, I want to worship him not only because of this, but just because he is the one and only God.
